Rand has always been drawn to the built environment and all things antique. As a child, he collected skeleton keys and relished any opportunity to attend open houses with his mom, just for fun. After receiving a notebook of graph vellum paper one year for Christmas, he began sketching floor plans of grand homes with imagined histories. Years later, he would discover a box in his parent’s basement containing a pile of these old floor plan sketches alongside a long-forgotten prophetic first grade career assessment quiz. Recommended career: architecture. 

While he did eventually end up receiving his masters degree in architecture from Roger Williams University, after a brief internship with Olson Kundig Architects in Seattle, Rand found his true passion in the world of interior design. As a designer for Starbucks, working on early high profile Reserve and concepts store designs, he cultivated his passion for storytelling through the lens of hospitality, affording him the unique opportunity to study branding from the inside, translating brand story through interior design. 

As the Environments Design Director at Proportion, Rand leads all aspects of brand story within the built environment from brand activation, environmental graphics, and signage through full interior design and staging. He pairs his exceptional design skills and keen eye for detail with a mastery of concept and narrative, ensuring each project is approached with fresh perspective. While Rand appreciates the opportunity to work on all project sectors, he has a unique passion for hospitality, crafting immersive environments for gathering, relaxing, tasting, and exploring. He brings this empathetic, hospitality-driven perspective to all projects here at Proportion. 

Outside the office, Rand lives in Newbury, Massachusetts where he enjoys antiquing with his husband, exploring the local restaurant scene, and petting every dog he comes into contact with.
